Trying to sell a home isn’t up to the Realtor. Homeowners need to help the Realtor by getting a home ready for show day, making it more attractive to potential buyers.

Homeowners need to be extremely critical of their home and yard and try to look at it through a buyer’s eyes. Start by using this list before show day.

Outside

Curb appeal

Take a glance at the garden, fencing, and perimeter wall. Often a coat of fresh paint is all that is needed, but anything broken should be fixed. You can plant flowers or trim trees, as well.

Exterior walls

Dirty walls should be cleaned, fixed and/or repainted.

Roofing, Siding, and Gutters

Although these can be expensive to replace, if these areas are in need of repair it is advisable to take care of the problems before trying to sell the house.

Gardens

Mowing the lawn the day before will be like a haircut for your yard. Trim trees and bushes, particularly near walkways. Yellow has been proven to be a good sale color, so maybe you should plant some yellow flowers.

Inside

Paint Once Again

A simple painting can spruce up a dull home. Choose neutral colors.

Keep it clean!

Clean out everything before show day. Scrub everything that is visible, especially areas that are normally ignored or glossed over like behind and under furniture, curtain rails etc. Buyers will open cupboards, so clean them well.

Clutter Cleaning

Everything should be removed that is possible. The same goes for any piles of junk in the back yard.

Pet issues

Not everyone loves pets, or the mess they make. Animal bowls, dog beds, and cat litter should all be removed.

Bathrooms

Make sure all faucets are shiny and clean.

The very final step is home staging. This is where you make the house look it’s best.

Do some touching up the morning of the show. Make sure dishes are washed and put away and toys are hidden. Make sure the kids didn’t unpack anything last minute. Go out for the day, and hopefully come back to a few good offers from buyers.
